Title: Knowledge is power
Post by: Llama on August 23, 2024, 11:23:48 PM
I don't particularly like weighing myself but it does help anchor me in reality. Knowing what my weight is doing rather than hoping means I can adjust accordingly. Sure, weight fluctuates (because of gut filling, hydration levels, water retention due to muscle soreness, hormonal bloat, or inflammation) so there's no sense in panicking over any one specific measurement but the long-term trend counts anyway. I put my weigh-in in my diary as well but having a specific weigh-in thread makes the data easier to find and keep track of. Feel free to join me, whether it's with weight or other measurements.

My first weigh-in on this forum was last Monday: 88.1 kg/194 lbs. I generally weigh in once a week, but to each their own.

88.5 kg today, which is a 0.4 kg increase. Knew I wasn't doing well this week so no surprise.

Guess this is a good replacement place for the old weigh yourself everyday thread.  Difference is people can decide when and how often weigh in works for them.  Hope you agree Llama.   And I like the new title better, knowledge is power!

8/26 - 182

No binge yesterday and probably 4 days since the last one.

Thanks for starting this thread Llama!  I'm at 191.2, which is a low for me.  This is surprising as I ate a lot of ravioli later in the evening last night, and eating late usually makes me 2-3 pounds heavier the next day.  First goal is to get into the 180s again.

Yay for no binge! You're absolutely allowed to decide for yourself how often you want to weigh/measure. If we really get infinite editing options I'll probably just keep one reply going and update it as needed.

With all you have going on nothing surprises me, so: yay!

I think this is a great space to weigh in whenever it suits each individual. Knowledge is power.

88.5 kg today, which is a 0.4 kg increase.
Holding steady for a week is not bad, we've both had much worse weeks...  0.4 kg is just noise level, not really a gain.
191.2, which is a low for me...  First goal is to get into the 180s again.
Good for you, the 180s are close!
Thanks for starting this thread Llama!
I agree.

I wasn't really eating anything sugary for over a month then I ate a rocket popsicle that was pure sugar this made my weight fluctuate 2 pounds heavier. after a few days with no sugar again my weight leveled out to 197 again. I have a feeling I will be in the 190s for a long time. I think I may need to do a water fast for a while to break this plateau.

Yeah the OJ had no sugar but it was still very sweet and a bit acidic. It's been some time since I had a glass of orange juice. Still haven't been feeling well with the stupid flu. going to have chicken soup and grilled cheese instead of anything heavy tonight. I took some 12 hour cough syrup because Ive been coughing so much but Its not helping much. I also have a free covid test in the bathroom I may try. The government was giving them away back when the pandemic was widespread.

Wow, I hope it's not covid!  I make a cup of hot water, add 1/2 teaspoon of salt and stir, wait for it to cool down, and gargle with it when I have a bad sore throat.  If I remember to do that a few times a day, it really helps.  Hope you feel better!!

thanks Marsia I just had a glass of orange juice.  If my throat gets worse I will take your advice for sure. Right now it's mostly stuffy nose and a lot of coughing. I should take the covid test I have but the thought of sticking a cotton swab so far up my nose it scratches my brain is very unappealing.

Flu is gone. feeling much better now. weight seems to be stuck at 188 just like it was when I was 197. Ive been eating junky food so I hope that I can move away from that kind of food so I will see the weight start to drop.
I'm glad the flu is gone now, Andrew. You won't stay stuck at 188 if you stay away from junk food. It's great that you have dropped 9 lbs.

Thanks Cate. Usually we have take out at least once a week and it's not helping.

Maybe now that you're better you can load up on healthy food the meal before the take-out meal?  I'm glad you're feeling better!!

Thanks Marsia.  :grouphug:  :jump:  That's a good idea. better to fill up on healthy food instead of junk. Usually we get it on Thursday or Friday so im good for at least 3 or 4 days. Trying to eat clean these other days.

well I failed. first day and my family brought home Chinese food. I should have implemented the plan Marsia suggested and filled up on healthy stuff beforehand but it was kinda a surprise. she went out to get coffee and came home with the food. going to try and not eat anything for the rest of the day.

If something like that happens again you could freeze a container "for another time". Or eat what you think is a reasonable portion & freeze some when they are finished. Your Mum might get less in next time if that happens. It's not being wasted that way.

Let it cool down first in the fridge with the lid off & then freeze.

144.6 lbs!!! Hopefully this is my highest weight till the end of this month. I gained a lot of weight this month instead of losing. So a little disappointed with myself. My birthday is on the end of next month and I would like to go under 140 lbs. But my eating at night sometimes is uncontrollable.

But my eating at night sometimes is uncontrollable.

I feel you there. I tried not eating after a certain time of night but it hasn't been working too well. Its like im looking for something every 2 hours until I sleep. It didn't work for me but maybe it will work for you. Maybe find a cutoff point so youre basically fasting after a certain time at night. You could try snacking on low calorie items like a sliced up cucumber. I eat those instead of fries now.

Don't be jealous, it always happens when I stop bingeing.  I think its a combination of the solids clearing from my system and reduced water retention due to fewer carbs.  Not real fat loss.  I am sure I will stabilize soon, if I am not already there.

good luck with your goals. with over a month to reach your goal I think that's plenty of time to lose enough to drop a size.

I'm at 183.9 today.  I was at 181.9 a while ago, but I wasn't eating from the flu and got weak feeling, so that was not a good measure.  I really expect a lot of fluctuation and just try for the trend to be downward.  I am not counting every calorie and being strict with my diet, so I will probably have a bit of fluctuation.

I am experiencing the fluctuation these past few days as well so I will just try to focus on the general trend of going down like you are doing. sorry you had the flue that sounds terrible. I hope it wasn't the stomach flu.

Thanks Andrew, no it was just a cough, sore throat, fatigue, that sort of thing.  It's getting better though!  I think it's good to sort of go with the flow and not worry about the ups and downs from day to day so much.  I normally can't lose weight while stressed, so I try to stay calm about the small weight gains.

My weight is 184.6. so up from what I was a few days ago. Im glad what you had was just a cough type thing. that's what I had also a few weeks ago. well I had a little bit of a stuffy nose too. Mine only lasted about 3 days and it was done. I did drink some orange juice each day for a bit of a boost of vitamin c. I have no idea if that helped at all.

It's just been a really crappy month as far as food is concerned. Starting tomorrow I will try and fix my food habits.

184 again today. I hope I can somehow get back to 182. the 182 was my all time low. even lower than my 2 week water only fast I did earlier this year. I had gone from 205 to 187 at the last day of my fast. I was on a conditional discharge and my therapist was threatening to hospitalize me again so I broke the fast. Im sure now it wasn't worth it because I gained it all back just from eating normally.

Thanks Andrew, but it always does after I stop bingeing, 5 pounds in 5 days is about typical.  I think its a combination of dropping water weight from carb reduction and clearing solids out of the system.  I am sure I am losing a bit of fat, but it can't happen that fast.  Soon I will level out and if I can keep up the better eating and no binges it will more slowly drop...  Like you!

I dont want to push you but have you thought about talking to a councilor? It might help. You said you binged on ice and frozen broccoli so it doesn't seem like a normal craving for something sugar or a matter of how hungry or full you are. That's hard to offer advice for. I want to help but I dont know how to in a helpful way.

Thanks Andrew.  I have tried counseling, saw the only person I could find who specialized in eating disorders in the area.  He was not very helpful.  Had this thing about seeing the good and bad you on your shoulders or something... did not click with me.  Its been a couple of years so I don't remember the details well.  I did try but it just wasn't helping.  I think most of his clients were younger women with binge and purge problems.

I do have the normal sugar cravings... broccoli and the like are only substitutes to try and binge with low calorie stuff.  Not nearly so satisfying as cookies.

My lack of posting for the past few days is that I am still just seeing lines.  My best excuse anyway...
